POINTS OF NOTE 15.1 Issues to be considered by other establishments. 15.1.1 HMPs Shotts and Glenochil should adopt the practice of intended Personal Officers interviewing prisoners prior to their transfer from the NIC (paragraph 5.7). 15.2 Issues to be taken up with the Governor on subsequent visits by the Inspectorate. 15.2.1 There should be a review of the weekend routine with the aim of providing far more purposeful activities (paragraph 3.11). 15.2.2 There should be an early review of the Contingency Plans (paragraph 4.12). 15.2.3 Management should introduce formal systems to review, update and adjust where appropriate, the content and subject matter contained in the Information/Awareness Group sessions (paragraph 6.8). 15.2.4 A fully trained Lifer Liaison Officer, tasked with creating and maintaining a programme relevant to the specific needs of Lifers, should be appointed (paragraph 6.9). 15.2.5 One member of staff should be given overall accountability for the provision and monitoring of procedures relating to PE equipment in the gymnasium (paragraph 6.12). 15.2.6 Arrangements should be made for the proper promotion of the Butler Trust Scheme (paragraph 6.27). 15.2.7 Consideration should be given to finding alternative means of delivering prisoners meals to the establishment (paragraph 7.2). 15.2.8 All meal times should be in accordance with SPS Operating Standards (paragraph 7.4). 15.2.9 A number of Health and Safety issues, as listed, needs to be addressed (paragraphs 7.18 and 19). 15.2.10 The NIC should be represented on the main Shotts Health Care Management Group (paragraph 8.3). 15.2.11 On entry to the NIC, all staff should undertake a first level counselling skills course. Arrangements should also be in place for staff to facilitate their ongoing development of expertise in the complex social issues addressed in the Information Sessions as well as their presentation skills (paragraph 9.6). 15.2.12 A Conditioning Awareness package should be included in the staff training programme (paragraph 9.7). 15.2.13 Staff showering facilities
should be provided in the basement area close to the customised staff facility (paragraph 9.9). |
