GOOD PRACTICE

Practices at HM Remand Institution Longriggend which are commended to other establishments are:-

1. A Joint Liaison Contingency Plan had been prepared in collaboration with the emergency services and local authorities (paragraph 4.8).

2. The PE staff were offering and promoting regular fitness testing and individual fitness/healthy eating guides for staff (paragraph 6.33).

3. Fire drills were being carried out every quarter, with comprehensive written reports being prepared on the outcomes followed by a full risk assessment to identify any areas where improvements were required (paragraph 7.22).

4. A comprehensive training plan had been prepared to help address the problem of a local shortfall in staff training (paragraph 9.20).
