REPORT BY HM INSPECTORATE OF PRISONS ON HM PRISON, ABERDEEN 1997

ANNEX 4

GOOD PRACTICE

Practices at HMP Aberdeen which are commended to other establishments.

1. Staff training was being approached in a highly structured way, with individual development plans in place which reflected the establishment’s strategic priorities; there was also a strong line management involvement (paragraphs 9.6-11).

2. The local sick absence policy adopted an holistic approach with a focus on determining the root causes of any absence rather than concentrating on symptoms (paragraphs 9.12-14.).
