The database is supported by the Information and Statistics Division (ISD) and offers a profile on the misuse of drugs, based on information about patients or clients seen at a range of services across Scotland including general practice and specialist drug services (statutory and non statutory). The database collects anonymous information on the demographic and behavioural characteristics of new problem drug users.

A range of statistical information can be derived from the database including age and sex characteristics of drug misusers; social information; type of drugs misused; and injecting and sharing behaviour. Wherever possible, ISD will provide analyses of the database on request to meet the particular needs of customers.
