Good Practice

Practices at HMP Barlinnie which are commended to other establishments:-

1. The development of a local Contingency Planning Liaison Group involving a number of external agencies and the production of a joint contingency plan (paragraph 4.13).

2. The review of and the subsequent reduction in the number of vehicle movements through the main gate (paragraph 4.18).

3. The appointment of full-time Fire Precautions Officers and Deputy FPOs with specific responsibility for areas of the prison (paragraph 7.26).

4. Members of the mental health nursing team attending Glasgow Sheriff Court to identify possible high risk prisoners (paragraph 8.23).
