Annex C: Integration manager: possible job specification
 
Authorities may consider appointing an integration manager to manage the delivery of integrated services within the New Community School or New Community School cluster, in line with the agreed pilot plan.
 
Integration manager - Remit
 
The integration manager would:
 
  • be responsible for the operational management of the pilot project and would be accountable to the project steering group;
  • oversee the integration of the work of specialist agencies providing support to students and members of the local community within the New Community School or New Community School cluster;
  • ensure and promote effective communication between schools, service agencies and the local community;
  • monitor the on-going work of the pilot project and report to the project steering group on the project's impact on educational attainment and social welfare; and
  • undertake other duties as required by the project steering group in response to needs.

    Job activities
     
    • As part of the pilot project's co-ordinating management team, contribute to the plan for developing and delivering services required by young people and their families in a co-ordinated and effective manner.
  • Establish a consultation framework within schools and the local community to obtain the views of individuals and various community and interest groups, including local industries, on the services and service levels that might be effectively delivered in an integrated way within local schools.
  • Encourage school staff and community participation in the development and delivery of integrated services and the use of schools as a community resource.
  • In conjunction with members of school senior management teams and other services, promote improvement in schools by contributing to initiatives such as ethos, attendance, early intervention, alternatives to exclusion and alternative curricula.
  • Promote and co-ordinate multi-agency activity between core services of education, social work, health education and promotion, and other relevant services which support the needs of young people and their families.
  • Promote and contribute towards positive intervention activities such as community work placement for teachers, home-school partnerships, homework clubs and holiday support, work experience, enterprise opportunities and healthy living activities.
  • Liaise with school staff, members of the community and specialist agencies to encourage and contribute to new cross-service initiatives, facilitate communication between groups and provide advice and guidance to interested parties.
  • Monitor performance and effectiveness of the pilot project, take action to ensure that the pilot is carried out in an effective and efficient manner and provide interim and annual reports on the pilot project to the project steering group.
  • Manage the project administration and the budget allocated to the pilot project in a way which ensures value for money.
