Educational Terms
Accrediting The process of recognising qualifications of an awarding body as meeting the national criteria for national currency and quality assurance.
Awarding Body A body with the authority to award (or certificate) qualifications and approve organisations which can offer them.
Certification The process of assessing, recording and issuing a certificate to recognise achievement of a qualification.
Group Award A named qualification consisting of particular groupings of individual units.
National Occupational Standards National standards of occupational competence which are drawn up by NTOs or other recognised standards setting bodies for specific occupational sectors.
Validation The process of recognising the arrangements of a provider of education as satisfying the standards of the awarding body for the award of one of its qualifications.
Verification The process of ensuring that standards of assessment are consistent within a centre or between centres.
