visit"2 as defined in the 1989 Regulations. |

| 1 Regulation 1(2) of the NHS
(Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) 1989 (SI 1989 No 364), was amended by the NHS
(Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1992 (SI 1992 No 411), the
NHS (Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1994 (SI 1994 No 1770)
and the NHS (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Amendment Regulations 1998 (SI 1998 No 251). |
| 2 "Treatment the need for
which arose during the visit" means diagnosis of symptoms or signs occurring for the
first time after the visitors arrival in the UK, and any of the treatment which, in
the opinion of a medical or dental practitioner employed by, or under contract with, a
Health Board or as the case may be, NHS Trust, is required promptly for a condition which
arose after the visitors arrival or became acutely exacerbated after arrival; or
would be likely to become, acutely exacerbated without treatment. |
