Raising Standards in Literacy and Numeracy

The City Of Edinburgh Council
Strategy
The aim of the project is to improve the literacy attainments, and consequently the long term educational prospects, of children in areas of deprivation in Edinburgh through a coherent programme of early intervention in the prevention of literacy difficulties.
This will be done by:
  • improving, by direct intervention strategies, the reading and writing abilities of children in P1 and P2;
  • developing more focused teaching and learning strategies;
  • increasing parental involvement in education and improve family literacy.
