Cost Effective Landscape: Learning from Nature

Return to TASK

UNFORESEEN DEVELOPMENTS

New man made developments and projects may have an impact on the original landscape design objectives which could require a modification to the landscape and its management - for example road improvements or changes, adjacent development and so on.

Research, experience or unpredicted development could give rise to a need to review the original design objectives - for example:-

  • Particularly rapid establishment and growth of particular species or species combinations.
  • A natural event (a storm perhaps) provides opportunity to develop the landscape in a different direction.
  • Erosion or weathering effects of a particular feature.
  • Disease or pests damaging the scheme.

Also new techniques and materials may require adaptations for example;

  • herbicides and fertilisers;
  • availability of plant species;
  • new machinery; and
  • new approaches

OBJECTIVES CHANGED

The following could have an impact on landscape design objectives;

  • transport or environmental policy changes;
  • changes in fiscal arrangements;
  • new initiatives and trends;
  • evolution of design principles; and
  • greater understanding of the natural world.
