12.1.1 The SPS should consider how best to evaluate the Drug Relapse Prevention Programme (paragraph 3.57).
12.1.2 Consideration should be given to identifying ways of aligning the different risk assessment processes currently being adopted by the City of Edinburgh Criminal Justice Social Work teams and the SPS psychology services (paragraph 5.80).
12.2 Issues to be taken up with the Governor I/C on subsequent visits to the establishment.
12.2.1 Staff should take a more proactive role to ensure that standards are not allowed to slip in Glenesk Hall, that regular checks are made of cell conditions and that a firm line is maintained in terms of standards of cleanliness, tidiness and hygiene (paragraph 2.16).
12.2.2 Steps should be taken to find some way of upgrading the general standards of furniture and decoration in 'A', 'B' and 'C' Halls (paragraph 2.18).
12.2.3 The local rules about posters should be more strictly enforced and in particular, staff should ensure that there are no posters on external walls (paragraph 2.18).
12.2.4 There should be a complete review of recreational facilities, with some attempt being made to improve the appearance of the recreation areas (paragraph 2.22).
12.2.5 Kit changes should be provided seven days a week (paragraph 2.23).
12.2.6 Management should make every effort to ensure that prisoners are given their statutory entitlement in terms of time in the fresh air (paragraph 2.24).
12.2.7 There should be a complete review of the progression system with the aim of introducing more meaningful differentials (paragraph 2.25).
12.2.8 The weekend routine for Glenesk Hall should be altered so that prisoners can have time in the open air and attend a church service (paragraph 2.26).
12.2.9 The arrangements for sharing cellular accommodation in 'B' Hall should always be in accordance with Prison Rules (paragraph 3.25).
12.2.10 Management should consider ways of using other accommodation within the establishment as a means of reducing the number of different prisoner groups presently located in 'B' Hall (paragraph 3.28).
12.2.11 There should be an additional full-time member of the healthcare team to assist in the prison's drug detoxification programme (paragraph 3.47).
12.2.12 There should be an increase in the number of random drug tests, coupled with a greater variation in when the tests are carried out (paragraph 3.51).
12.2.13 Drug test statistics should be disaggregated to show test results by Hall (paragraph 3.51).
12.2.14 A system should be put in place to ensure that statistics on the operation of ACT within the prison are collected (paragraph 3.67).
12.2.15 An alternative means of manning the establishment's telephone system after 1700 hours should be considered as a matter of priority (paragraph 4.10).
12.2.16 Consideration should be given to the installation of one-way glass in the staff office in the Segregation Unit (paragraph 4.20).
12.2.17 The FPO should be guaranteed time off every week from his principal tasks to undertake his fire precaution duties (paragraph 4.34).
12.2.18 Given the proximity of the local Fire Brigade, the policy of providing SDBA training should be reconsidered (paragraph 4.35).
12.2.19 The booking arrangement for remand visits should be reviewed in the light of experience elsewhere (paragraph 5.54).

12.2.28 All meal times should be in accordance with SPS Operating Standards (paragraph 7.18).
12.2.29 The staff training records should be used to identify staff who were not participating in any training activities so that appropriate targeted action might be taken (paragraph 9.35).
12.2.30 Consideration should be given either to converting the main staff facility into a privately managed concern or to upgrading it to a standard that makes it more attractive to staff (paragraph 9.39).
