Coronavirus (COVID-19): NHS Louisa Jordan Governance Board

Overview

The SEC Centre in Glasgow (Part of the Scottish Event Campus) is going to be used as a temporary hospital to help manage the additional demand of covid-19 patients. The new hospital will be a contingency measure should the NHS Scotland estate run out of space to house people suffering from coronavirus. Initially it will provide the NHS with 300 additional beds but ultimately it could have capacity for more than 1,000 patients.

The hospital is being organised as a direct delivery arm of Scottish Government and it is important that the Scottish Government have an appropriate level of governance of the project. It’s also important that the leadership of the hospital are given the appropriate autonomy to construct and run the hospital effectively.  It is recognised, that because this facility is being built so quickly, that for some decisions, retrospective approval will be needed, but it is important that the Scottish Government can evidence and justify each decision taken.
