Introduction

The Voluntary Issues Unit (VIU) is located in the heart of the Scottish Executive, within the Executive Secretariat.

This reflects the high importance that the Scottish Executive attaches to its relationship with the voluntary sector.

The VIU has the job of

  • Taking a strategic overview of the Scottish Executive's relationship with and support for the voluntary sector.
  • Taking forward and monitoring implementation of the Scottish Compact.
  • Providing support for the infrastructure of the voluntary and volunteering sectors.
  • Taking forward the Scottish Executive's Active Communities Initiative and Millennium Volunteers Programme.
