< Previous | Contents | Next > CONSULTATION ON REGULATIONS IN SUPPORT OF THE BUILDING (SCOTLAND) ACT4 Practical implementation of certification4.1 Schedule 4.1.1 The new system of building standards regulation is due to come into force on 1st May 2005. It is therefore intended that some certification schemes will be operational in 2005. 4.1.2 In order to do so, it hopes to approve certification scheme providers and schemes during 2004 so that certification scheme providers can develop administrative systems, train staff, and recruit members. At the same time, the SBSA will be developing the register database and training staff. 4.1.3 The certification system will only be launched when the SBSA and the first certification scheme providers are ready to operate efficiently. 4.1.4 Due to the fact that the current system of self-certification for structural design and electrical installation will be terminated when the new regulations come into effect, the SBSA considers that it is a priority for the industry to propose certification schemes for Approved Certifiers of design (Structure), and Approved Certifiers of construction (Electrical Installations), but applications for other schemes will also be seriously considered. 4.1.5 Schedule for the implementation of certification:
