Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park: Consultation on draft Designation Order

 

Explanatory Notes

Article 3 Designation of National Park

This specifies the area to be designated as a National Park by making reference to the area delineated in black on the attached map.

Article 4 Establishment of National Park Authority

This section states that on the establishment date (stated in article 2) there will also be established a Park Authority to be known as 'The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority'.

Article 5 Constitution of the National Park Authority

This section provides details of the constitution of the Park Authority.

Paragraph (1) states that the number of people to serve on the Park Authority shall be 25.

Paragraph (2) sets the number of people to be directly elected to the Park Authority at 5.

Paragraph (3) sets at 5 the number of "local members" to be appointed. "Local" is defined in schedule 1 paragraph 3(6) of the National Parks (Scotland) Act as being someone who either lives in the Park, or is a councillor for an electoral ward or member of a community council any part of whose area is within the National Park.

Paragraph (4) provides details of the local authorities that have a responsibility to nominate the nominated members of the Park Authority. Furthermore, it states the number of nominations to be made by each of those authorities, and the number of these which must be "local" as defined above.
