Data, Marine Atlas & Marine Scotland Interactive

Marine Scotland gathers and uses a wide range of data and information as part of its work.

Scotland’s Marine Atlas was published in 2011 and the data sets that were used to inform that Atlas are now being updated and added to National Marine Plan interactive (NMPi). Marine Scotland Interactive (MSi) compliments the Atlas and NMPi by presenting different data in various formats, such as images and video.  To find out more about the Atlas, NMPi and MSi, please use the links below:

Scotland's Marine Atlas - Information for the National Marine Plan is an assessment of the condition of Scotland's seas, based on scientific evidence from data and analysis, supported by expert judgement.

It provides baseline information from which the national marine plan will be developed.

NMPi

National Marine Plan interactive is an online, interactive GIS-based tool allowing you to view different types of information (as layers) at a scale of your choice. Where appropriate, links have also been provided related parts of Scotland's Marine Atlas, updated graphs and data.

Registered users can create maps for printing, develop their own data layers and download certain data (subject to a licence agreement) and new data are regularly being added.

Marine Scotland Interactive is used for making complex layered spatial datasets of the marine enviroment available to download in formats compatible with freely available software (Google Earth and ArcGis Desktop Explorer) and social media sites (Picasa and YouTube).

A variety of file formats (maps, video clips, photographs, geodatabases and text) can be viewed with differing levels of functionality and interactivity.
