This table shows the regional priorities relevant to the region you have selected.

Each regional priority has a unique code (column one) which will help you to identify your selected priorities when completing your Statement of Intent/Proposal.

The detailed description (column two) has been provided to help you understand the implications and outcomes being sought by each priority.

The package numbers (column three) will help you to cross reference those relevant packages to the regional priority you have selected, with the full list of packages detailed on the right hand side of the page.

15. Conservation and enhancement of the historic environment, with priority given to proposals that:

CLY15a

a. Enhance and conserve the most significant rural vernacular buildings, archaeological or historic sites and historic landscapes. Particularly proposals that:

  • will contribute to the maintenance or enhancement of listed buildings or scheduled ancient monuments
  • contribute to the management, maintenance or enhancement of World Heritage sites (New Lanark, Antonine Wall (proposed))
  • protect, restore and enhance the woodland and tree elements of the area's Historic Gardens and Designed Landscapes, particularly the application of Low Impact Silvicultural Systems to policy and other important woodland landscape features
  • enhance Clyde Valley Region sites within the National Inventory of Historic Gardens and Designed landscapes - An inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, Volume 2: Dumfries and Galloway and Strathclyde.

b. Help to maintain local distinctiveness and promote local identity and pride of place through the management of vernacular rural buildings, archaeological or historic sites and historic landscapes. Particularly proposals that:

  • support community-based projects to promote the history and identity of the Clyde Valley Region

c. Contribute to the preservation and development of skills and employment opportunities through the management of vernacular rural buildings, archaeological or historic sites and historic landscapes.

d. Increase public appreciation and understanding of, and access to, the historic environment. Particularly proposals that:

  • enhance the promotion of the Antonine Wall
  • develop of cultural and/or community based projects to identify and promote local historic and cultural features, e.g. Wilsontown Ironworks.

CLY15e

e. Improve the viability of existing rural building stock, achieved by increasing the number and range of vernacular rural buildings that can be made viable or can continue to be viable for use. Particularly proposals that renovate, bring back into use or enable continued use of vernacular buildings in rural and particularly agricultural contexts, benefiting the appearance of the landscape, tourism, skills development, and economic development.
