This table shows the regional priorities relevant to the region you have selected.

Each regional priority has a unique code (column one) which will help you to identify your selected priorities when completing your Statement of Intent/Proposal.

The detailed description (column two) has been provided to help you understand the implications and outcomes being sought by each priority.

Relevant Packages

A diverse land-based business sector, through:

AYR26a

a. Encouraging innovation and new product development and local processing, marketing and retailing in line with Scottish Food and Drink Strategy and the Scottish Forestry Strategy.

Particularly proposals that:

  • reflect local networks and strengthen them, e.g. Taste of Arran, Ayrshire Food Network

b. Strengthening links between primary producers and other industry sectors, including processors, retailers and the food service sector, to develop predictable and stable supplies and reduce costs, waste and food/timber miles, organic conversion and live animal transport.

Particularly proposals that:

  • support local Ayrshire businesses, promote Ayrshire branding, bring producers together, reduce food miles or cut down packaging

c. Improvements in environmental performance particularly in resource usage and waste management practices.

Particularly proposals that:

  • involve the use of bio-digesters as an innovative approach to dealing with food and animal waste and as a source of sustainable energy
  • involve participation in region or sub-region wide waste recycling schemes, e.g. farm plastics recycling initiatives

Higher value rural goods and services being delivered from the primary (agriculture and forestry) manufacturing and processing, and the recreation and tourism sectors, through improvements in quality and reductions in production, processing and transport costs.

The increased local use of renewable energy, e.g. woodfuel.

Improved number of career development opportunities, through skills and training initiatives addressing rural skills gaps (complementing work of local enterprise agencies) and incorporating awareness of environmental and social objectives.

  • Improvement in the value and duration of tourism visits in rural areas, including maximising opportunities for green tourism.

Particularly proposals that:

  • build on, and increase, opportunities in relation to the impressive core and legacy of championship links golf courses
  • increase opportunities for sailing, windsurfing and other marine and coast-based recreational and leisure activities
  • develop further the creative and literary tradition of Robert Burns
  • build on, and increase, opportunities in relation to the global legacy of Burns and other cultural heritage and the events strategies based around them
  • increase opportunities for outdoor activities which enable or promote enjoyment of the exceptional range of quality landscapes and natural heritage including walking, cycling and pony-trekking
  • sustain business and revitalise the environment of the rural towns and villages within Ayrshire, contribute to wider regeneration outcomes and target degraded areas
  • promote Green tourism, sustainable land management practices and earth science within the proposed designated Biosphere of Southern Ayrshire and the Geopark proposed for Arran.

Improvements in integration between access and land management:

  • Priority will be given to proposals that enhance access/land management integration in NSAs, the settlement coalesence study and opportunities arising from the Greenspace/Open Space Strategy.

Improvements in facilties in specific user groups including all abilities. Particularly proposals that:

  • include facilities for walkers, moutain-bikers, canoeists, horse-riders, drivers, wildlife clubs and community interest groups.
