An Agricultural census is carried out every year, and the details of these can be seen using the menu on the left.

Final 2005 results

Lots of change in the total size of the poultry flock, while other animal populations remain fairly stable - a slight rise in cow populations and a slight fall in sheep populations. The area of wheat, oilseed rape, barley and oats all fell. The total number of staff employed was little changed.

Final 2004 results

The number of pigs fell by four per cent, from 489,000 to 472,000, while the total Poultry flock grew by about 1.5 million. There was very little change in the number of sheep, but a slight rise in the number of cattle.
