Pet Travel Scheme

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) has been introduced in Scotland to allow cat and dog owners to bring their pets into Britain from qualifying countries without entering quarantine, providing they comply with certain regulations. Further information on the PETS scheme,is avaliable from the Defra Website. At present there are no approved routes into Scotland.

The current PETS rules are detailed on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs web site.

Alternatively an animal may be imported under the quarantine rules and an application for early release can be applied for. Applications are handled centrally by the Animal Health Agency based in Chelmsford. They can be contacted by email at quarantine@animalhealth.gsi.gov.uk or by telephoning 01245 358383
