Bovine Semen Controls

From 13 July 2007 the collection and trade of bovine semen in Scotland is governed by the Bovine Semen (Scotland) Regulations 2007. These regulations bring collection and trade legislation for bovine semen in line with the current EC Directive 88/407/EEC, and revise the regulations governing domestic trade.

Licences

Under the regulations there is a requirement for bovine animals used for the domestic or Intra-Community semen trade to be approved and licensed

There is a similar requirement for quarantine, collection and storage centres to be approved and licensed.

At the present time the only activity undertaken in Scotland is the collection of semen on farm. Consequently the only licence available is for the approval of bulls for on farm collection.

If you wish to apply for the above licence an application for permission to use a bull in Artificial Insemination must be completed and returned to:-
