EU REGULATION 21/2004 provides for the mandatory introduction of EID in sheep from January 2010 which is obligatory across all EU Member States. Scotland will face challenges in the introduction of EID and the Scottish Government has agreed to fund Research Work including a large scale EID Research Pilot to help find a workable and affordable EID system. This is being taken forward by independent co-ordinators, SAOS, at the request of the joint Scottish Government/Industry Working Group. Details of the pilot can be found at www.scoteid.com.
