Sand and Shingle Removal

10.1 The obligation is to consult and receive permission before any extraction takes place in order to prevent damage to sensitive areas. Requests should detail site location and amount of material to be removed, a single request may be made to cover a period of several years.

10.2 Following receipt of such a request the views of local SNH staff should be sought. Should a site inspection be involved this should be a joint SEERAD/SNH visit.

10.3 As a result of the applicant's request he should be advised either that:

  • the work proposed can proceed;
  • amended proposals can proceed;
  • work cannot proceed without causing environmental damage which could result in the RSS agreement having to be cancelled and possibly payments made having to be recovered.

10.4 The consultation procedures between SNH and SEERAD may be amended by mutual agreement between the PAO or RSS co-ordinator and local SNH staff.
