I think I know the answer, is it Salmond pink?

On second thoughts isn't that the colour the SNP's supporters went when news first broke of the FM's backing for the Monarchy.

I can only hazard a guess at the colour they went when Salmond said he would be supporting England at the rugby world cup!!

Well said Wulbert.

No doubt you would wish that we could introduce courts that will exile all Scots who don't agree with your viewpoint! Maybe you could appoint yourself as a Laird and conduct a 21st century equivalent of the Highland Clearances, or maybe as a judge so you can sentence those of an alternative viewpoint to 'Deportation'.
Its people like you who frighten the hard - working, honest, law abiding Scots enough to say 'You have gone too far'.

Nice to know where the SNP really comes from.

We don't want independance. We want our country to be free from poverty, highly educated and envied on the international platform. By our country, I mean the UK - Scotland is legally not a country, it is a region of the United Kingdom. The sooner Salmond and his friends realise that, the better.

Lets leave Gordon Brown out of the equation.

He is neither English, Scottish, British , Welsh or Irish. He is whatever he needs to be to enhance his agenda.

He is a Chamelion, Throw him on to a Tartan Blanket.

What color would he turn ????

The question is as simple as this: What kind of country do you want to live in? One that is free and independant, or one that is not free?
If, as you fear, Scotalnd goes downhill, you can aye move to England

I can't help wondering if Scottish Labour will stick by their stance on a referendum if (and when, as it seems at the moment) David Cameron pips Brown to the post at the next election - whenever its called! A Conservative UK Government will not be popular in Scotland and could just be the catalyst for the people of Scotland to pluck up the courage to push to be allowed to decide on the constitutional future of our country. Perhaps in a strange twist Scottish Nationalists will vote tactically vote Conservative in the next election as a way to delivering the ultimate prize - for Scotland to be a nation again!
This much is also clear - Gordon Brown hasn't performed THAT badly to justify what's been happening in the polls - the fact is England see themselves as the rulers of the UK and how dare a lowly Scotsman try to rule their country! Its not an equal partnership and its time to break free!

Ken Stevens - Now almost afraid to admit that it's England

"You have enjoyed living in a country that is recognised around the world as a country. I would like to know what that feels like , before i die."

You seriously reckon that Scotland is not already recognised globally as a cultural entity? How many times have I heard Scots say that when abroad, the natives were a bit cool towards them, thinking they were English, but warmed immediately upon learning that they were Scots! Millions of folk around the world with Scots ancestry presumably spreading a bit of awareness. The bottle of Knockando I had to take as a gift when meeting my German counterparts.
A national identity that can be readily conceptualised, however tackily, by anyone in the developed world as tartan, kilts, whisky and heather.
Etc, etc.

"We are being ruled and governed by a remote entity. You can't possibly understand this , or how it feels , if you grew up in England."

I grew up in Britain. It was them politicians wot changed my primary nationality to English. I can well understand how it feels to be governed remotely by someone from another country. Gordon Brown was elected in Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath.

" Do you feel the same about Wales and Ireland"
Yes.I'm not discriminatory.

"is this just all about hating the Scots"
Nope. Nearly forty years married to one. I've grown to quite like her and her relatives & friends (one of whose husbands was a staunch SNP member even back then, four decades ago).

"I'm reading a lot about the negativity towards the Scots lately in the English newspapers."
Try "The Scotsman " comment boards for spirited counterblasts. Negative comments in English rags are periodic, indignant, envious responses to whatever latest goodies are being dispensed in Scotland but not in England. I've no criticism of Alex Salmond in this respect. Just a pity we haven't got someone as personable , articulate and caring down here to do likewise for England.

"I believe the English should vote with the Scots on the issue of Independence. Then I know we would be Independent much quicker."
Seemingly so. Polls suggest that a higher proportion of England's population support English independence than do Scots re Scotland. A big problem is that the three major UK political parties are all firmly Unionist. The English Democrats party (the nearest level-headed counterpart to the SNP) has a long way to go to reach the same position as now attained in Scotland by SNP. Being lazy Englishmen, we're therefore looking to the Scots to do the hard work for us in resolving the present constitutional mess in a shorter timescale than it has taken the SNP.

I'm all for Union; otherwise all for cooperative, friendly federation or full independence of the constituent parts of current UK. Can't stand this in-between neither-here-nor-there situation.

Ain't nothing wrong with wanting to make your own way in the world as an independent nation, provided that, as with A. Salmond Esq, it is done in a confident forward looking way, rather than founded in long nurtured folk grievances (real or imagined) from the past.

Felicitations, dear heart.

... and sorry if my Georgia anecdote (which happened as stated, without embellishment) riled you unduly. It just gave me a little chuckle at the time it happened.

Yea Or Nay -

#1635

The people of Scotland made their views on separation clear at May's election.

They knew that if they returned more SNP MSP's than the Unionist parties together, then Salmond would have a clear mandate for taking Scotland out of Britain.

You will see they chose not to.
