What are the aims of PVS?

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF PVS?

Remit

The remit of the PTUC as agreed by Scottish Ministers is as follows:

  • To advise Scottish Ministers on strategic issues, reflecting passengers' views, relating to public transport services in, from and to Scotland, either on their own instigations or at Scottish Ministers' request;
  • to give advice and make recommendations to the Scottish Ministers regarding the promotion and improvement of integration, safety, the environment, sustainable transport, social inclusion, accessibility, mobility of disabled person in relation to transport, traffic information, security, and economic growth;
  • to engage with and complement the work of existing, proposed and new bodies, as well as users and providers and to undertake research;
  • to input into the development of national and regional strategies and accessibility policy;
  • to produce an annual report for Scottish Ministers highlighting issues of concern to travellers; and
  • to refer matters to the Scottish Ministers for consideration by them.

Strategic Objective


PVS will seek to contribute to the Scottish Government's 5 strategic objectives by improving public transport and encouraging modal shift, in Scotland and to and from Scotland, which in turn will contribute to a wealthier and fairer, healthier, safer and stronger, smarter and greener Scotland. PVS will focus its work on integration and information but may include any matter that is deemed to lead or create an improvement for public transport users.

Working Relationships

PVS members ensure that there is a good working relationship between the PTUC and the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Transport Scotland, the 7 regional transport partnerships, the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and the Rail Passengers' Council.
