Introduction

The Rural Community Transport Initiative (RCTI) is one of 3 grant schemes which make up the Scottish Executive's Rural Transport Fund. The Rural Transport Fund was established in 1998 to improve transport measures in rural areas of Scotland.

The aim of the RCTI is to help fund community transport measures that will be of particular help in the more remote areas of Scotland, where there are no scheduled bus services or where services are very limited.

By October 2006, 165 projects throughout Scotland will have benefited from the initiative with grant awards totalling £16.5 million.
