Scottish Multi-Modal Freight Locations Study
Scott Wilson Scotland Ltd were commissioned by the Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to examine the possible development of Scotland's key freight locations in terms of their economic competitiveness and contributions to other issues such as promoting modal shift and providing wider benefits. This report presents these issues and findings in terms of the potential demand for and impact of multi-modal freight locations throughout the country. Scottish Freight Data Report
This report was commissioned to specifically address Action 17 in the Freight Action Plan, i.e. "The Scottish Government and Enterprise Bodies will work with other public sector bodies and industry to develop freight information that can be used to inform future freight policy and services."
The document brings together existing information on the freight industry in Scotland. It discusses each of the modes in turn, presenting trends, describing the issues and identifying gaps in data availability. Freight Seminar
A freight seminar was facilitated by the Scottish Government. The aim of the seminar was to identify barriers that existed between local authority planners and the logistic industry; and to investigate what opportunities were available to remove or reduce these barriers. Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) for HGVs
The SRHMF also introduced a training programme which had the aim of demonstrating to industry the operational effectiveness of the SAFED for HGVs. The attached report is a review of how successful the scheme was in meeting its objectives and overcoming challenges SAFED Report 2007.
SCOTSIM
SCOTSIM was a research project funded through the Scottish Road Haulage Modernisation Fund (SRHMF). It involved the purchase of 2 simulators that delivered training and testing. An evaluation report was produced on the project and can be found at Scottish Simulators Report 2007.
Measuring the Value of the Freight Transport Sector to the Scottish Economy
Steer Davis Gleave were commissioned by the Scottish Government to undertake a study to achieve four objectives:
1. provide a quantitative assessment of the value of freight to the Scottish economy;
2. provide an interpretative evaluation of the contribution to the economy;
3. indicate levels of value added and contribution to the economy at a regional level; and
4. review the inter-relationship between the freight sector and other sectors of the economy.
