Pilot Project - Linking Biodiversity with People and their Environment
The £150,000 secured by BTCV to run a pilot scheme operated on behalf of the Scottish Executive demonstrated that raising awareness of biodiversity in disadvantaged urban areas can be achieved by linking it with people and their local environment. The schemes in Nitshill, Glasgow and East Kilbride resulted in new play facilities, regeneration of gardens and new paths and informed local residents of the immediate and acute benefits that may be felt throughout their community as a result of gaining both the knowledge and means to improve their surroundings.
Further funding has now been secured by BTCV Scotland to build upon this pilot scheme and develop awareness of biodiversity issues in urban areas throughout Scotland.
