Newmains Action Group

Newmains Action Group was set up to develop a Community Action Plan for the Newmains Community Council area, to make Newmains a better and more sustainable place in which to live. The group's main objective was to implement the aims set out in the Action Plan and use it as a tool to attract funding for the identified projects.

They received Sustainable Action Grant funding for the design and printing of the Newmains Community Action Plan to describe the aspirations and needs of the people of Newmains and identify the main aims and priorities for action. There was support also from Forward Scotland. The Plan was produced as a result of four months of intensive surveys, meetings and workshops in the Newmains area. It identified the hopes and fears of the community and prioritised action to make the area more sustainable.

There was a public launch of the Plan as a promotional tool for the work of the community in January 2002. 5,000 copies of the plan were distributed to various outlets in the area. It provided a key tool for promoting the work of the steering group and enabling agencies, stakeholders and potential funders to understand fully the aims of the community. The plan was thus a means of drawing in funding to further the action points. This will hopefully build longer-term community confidence and help empower continuing steering group action.
