Moffat and District Community Initiative
The grant of £25,200 enabled the Initiative to become
established as a community asset and effective working
developed with the Council's Area Regeneration Officer
contributing to the sustainability of the community.
The strategy to promote walking has included two walking
leaflets, in conjunction with the Council's Access to the
Countryside Officer and the Tourist Board.
The Moffat Walking Festival attracted over 300 walkers
in 2003. Attraction of walking groups to the area results
from promotion of local walking with the Tourist Board.
The Town Centre Enhancement Feasibility Study is being
implemented in stages.
The feasibility study on marketing Moffat as a
Georgian/Victorian Spa Town proved an influential tool in
attracting further funding. It demonstrated the need for
professional assistance to take forward a spectrum of
actions. Additional funding came from the Community
Regeneration Fund created to help communities recover from
the foot-and-mouth outbreak. This allowed the appointment
of two part-time Project Co-ordinators, which led to a new
website and a Victorian Spa Weekend event. Working
relationships also developed with local businesses, the
local enterprise company, the Council's Area Economic
Regeneration Group and the Tourist Board.
The Initiative gained additional funding from the Rural
Challenge Fund and match funding from the Council and
others.
The Sustainable Action Grant which funded the office
created an identity within the community.
