SIMD 2009 Interactive Mapping
The new SIMD 2009 interactive mapping functionality has been designed to ensure that the vast majority of SIMD users, regardless of how advanced or otherwise their computer technology may be, will still be able to benefit from at least some level of mapping functionality.
The Full Interactive Mapping option benefits from the latest Microsoft Silverlight and Virtual Earth technologies which allow the user to zoom in and out of any area of Scotland selecting SIMD and contextual data for any datazone they wish. It also allows the user to compare datazones. Both road and aerial mapping are available. If you do not have Microsoft Silverlight software pre-installed on your computer the system will offer you the chance todownload it free of charge.
The Interactive Mapping option allows users who are unable to download Silverlight to still view the same level of SIMD and contextual data for any datazone selected but with more limited mapping functionality via a full set of pre-produced static maps. Because of particular issues with the Internet Explorer version 6 browser, the Interactive Mapping option has a further adaption specifically designed for use by this browser.
