Overview
This websection contains the data used to construct the overall SIMD and each of the individual domains. The data behind the indicators have been published where possible, subject to confidentiality constraints, along with commonly requested analyses including: tables, charts and maps analysing the SIMD 2009 and change since SIMD 2004 and 2006.
It is strongly recommended that the relevant technical reports are consulted before using the background data in any subsequent analysis.
Data
- Overall SIMD 2009 and individual domains - presents datazone level information, including: score and rank on the overall SIMD 2009, score and rank on each of the individual domains and counts of the number of individuals considered to be income or employment deprived;
- Overall SIMD 2006 and individual domains - presents datazone level information, including: score and rank on the overall SIMD 2006, score and rank on each of the individual domains and counts of the number of individuals considered to be income or employment deprived;
- Overall SIMD 2004 and individual domains - presents datazone level information based on SIMD 2004.
SIMD 2009 Analysis Papers
- Analysis of concentrations of deprivation - this paper develops on the analysis in the SIMD 2009 General Report to explore what has happened to small area concentrations of multiple deprivation over time.
- Analysis of SIMD against other indicators - this paper provides an initial analysis of the results of SIMD 2009 against a range of other indicators that can be used to paint a picture of an area and issues relevant to neighbourhood deprivation and the life chances of those living in deprived areas.
- Education domain - entrants from deprived areas - examining changes to the measurement of participation in higher education by those Scottish domiciled entrants from deprived areas (5 pages) as a result of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD 2009).
- Housing domain - analysis of house price data - this paper aims to show the relationship between house prices and deprivation as classified by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (2009).
- Housing domain - household analysis - this paper uses the SIMD 2009 to carry out analysis of 2008 GROS households and housing information.
SIMD 2009 Analysis
- Overall SIMD 2009 - analysis at data zone and Local Authority level, including: share of the 5, 10, 15 and 20% most deprived in the overall SIMD 2004, 2006 and 2009;
SIMD 2009 individual domains - a compilation of analysis of individual SIMD domains, including: the share of the 5, 10, 15 and 20% most deprived by Local Authority and Urban Rural classification;
Analysis by Scottish Parliamentary Constituencies - analysis by Scottish Parliamentary Constituency, including: share of the 5, 10, 15 and 20% most deprived in the overall SIMD 2006 and counts of the number of individuals considered to be income or employment deprived.
Analysis by postcode - postcode level analysis on SIMD 2009.
- Analysis using Maps - SIMD maps for each Local Authority and Scottish Parliament Constituency, showing which areas have moved into, out from, or remained in the 15% most deprived between the SIMD 2006 and SIMD 2009.
- Charts and tables - charts and tables based on SIMD 2009 for each Local Authority, and comparing against SIMD 2006 and 2004.
- Text summaries - a list of initial findings from the SIMD 2009 for each Local Authority.

- Overall SIMD 2006 - analysis at data zone and Local Authority level, including: share of the 5, 10, 15 and 20% most deprived in the overall SIMD 2004 and SIMD 2006;
