Scottish House Condition Survey - Data Access

Data Access

The simplest way to get results on the SHCS is to examine the publications that have already been published, which are available via the Publications and Reports page.  Providing access to the underlying microdata is of interest to users who wish to undertake their own analysis.

  • Datasets provides access to key microdata releases
  • Special Datasets offers opportunity to access more detailed microdata
  • Follow-up Surveys allows access to a sample frame for secondary studies

Notes

The SHCS 2010 Key Findings report was published in November 2011.  Work is being undertaken to prepare the associated datasets (2008-2010) and will be published on the SHCS website by spring 2012.

Work is being undertaken to prepare the SHCS Social datasets across all years and will be published on the SHCS website by summer 2012.

The SHCS Derived datasets contain all the derived variables from both the social interviews and physical surveys.

Special Datasets

A request to be provided with a special dataset can be submitted where the standard anonymised datasets does not contain all the information you require.  This should allow users to undertake more detailed analyses for a specific project.

If you wish to submit a request then please refer to the SHCS Special Datasets guidelines document. This document provides useful background information as to when and how you should apply for access to an SHS special dataset. It also contains pro-forma which asks for the data specification needed to enable a decision on releasing the required information to be made. The pro-forma should be completed and submitted to the SHCS Project Team.

Follow-up Surveys

A follow-up survey provides opportunities to researchers to use the SHCS to identify a sample for follow-up research. This may allow more detailed probing of certain sub-groups or variables of interest, and to examine under-lying issues within the data.

If you wish to submit a request then please refer to the SHCS Follow-up Survey guidelines document. This document provides useful background information as to when and how you should apply for access to an SHCS Follow-up Survey. It also contains pro-forma which asks for the data specification needed to enable a decision on releasing the required information to be made. The pro-forma should be completed and submitted to the SHCS Project Team.
