Errors in Latest Editions

This page gives details of any errors in the preparation of a table, chart or commentary in the latest edition of a Transport Statistics publication which were identified before work started on the next edition. We regret any problems or inconvenience that the errors caused.

Please note that this page does not give details of:

  • cases where the statistics now available differ from those in the latest edition, because they have been revised by whoever supplied the figures. Such revisions could occur following more information becoming available, or an improvement in estimation methodology, or the correction of errors in the supplier's systems. In some of these cases, revised tables may be made available in the relevant publication's section of the Excel versions of Transport and Travel Statistics tables pages.
  • errors in a previous edition of a publication: they are mentioned in the following edition of that publication.
  • any errors which were discovered during the preparation of the next edition of a publication (they will be listed in that edition when it is published, probably a couple of months later).

We apologise for the following errors, which we have found in the 2006 edition of "Scottish Transport Statistics":

  • Table 5.1: The "A, B and C roads" totals for dual and single carriageway for 2005 were wrong, due to the use of an incorrect formula. The overall totals for these roads in 2005 should be 831 km of dual carriageway (rather than 757) and 27,289 km of single carriageway (rather than 27,362).

We apologise for the following errors, which we have found in the 2007 edition of "Main Transport Trends":

  • Tables S1 and SGB1: the figure for road traffic on motorways in 2006 should have been 6,442 million vehicle-kilometres (rather than 6,422) in Table S1, and 6.44 billion vehicle-kilometres (rather than 6.42) in Table SGB1.
  • Tables S2 and SGB2: the index values for road traffic on motorways in 2006 should have been 140.5 (rather than 140.0) in both these tables.
  • Table S3: the figure for adults walking as a means of transport in 2003 should have been 53.6% (rather than 53.7). Similarly, adults walking for pleasure or to keep fit in 2001 should be 42.6% (rather than 43.0), 2002 40.7% (rather than 41.1) and 2003 should be 43.6% (rather than 43.7).
  • Table SGB3: the figure for traffic on motorways in Scotland in 2006 should have been 1,259 vehicle-kilometres per head (rather than 1,255).
