Strategy for Sport
Sport has the potential to improve people's quality of life and the Executive is committed to widening access to and encouraging people to take part in sporting activities at all levels.
There are a number of strategies and programmes in place aimed at increasing participation in sport at all levels and in developing and realising potential. They also address the importance of keeping physically active and the wider benefits that this and participating in sport can bring.
'Reaching Higher - building on the success of Sport 21' is Scotland's national strategy for sport. It aims to deliver:
- A country where sport is more widely available to all;
- A country where sporting talent is recognised and nurtured; and
- A country achieving and sustaining world class performancs in sport.
The Natonal and Regional Facilities Strategy was launched by the Scottish Executive in March 2003. It will deliver World Class facilities for training and competition for our elite and emerging athletes. The facilities will also be available for local community use.
The National Physical Activity Strategy ('Let's Make Scotland More Active: A srategy for physical activity') aims to increase and maintain the propotion of physically active people in Scotland.
Sportscotland is the national agency for promoting and developing sport in Scotland
