Social and Welfare - Consultation and Planning

Consultation

The main consultation network is the ScotStat network. You are also invited to register on the ScotStat user register. The ScotStat register allows users and providers of Scottish Statistics to record their interest in specific topics. The register will then be used to target those interested in a particular statistical area.

The Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics project has been developed in consultation with users across Scotland and the UK. Minutes of meetings, discussion papers, geography issues etc are available at:

Please note that publications on for example the Index of Deprivation, can be accessed through the Publications and Data part of the Social and Welfare website

Financial Inclusion

In early 2008 social justice statistics contacted registered SCOTSTAT users of income and poverty data to ask them about the financial inclusion questions included in the Scottish Household Survey. Responses were received from a wide range of users, which were then fed into the recommendations social justice statistics made to the SHS team. A summary of the responses and the proposed changes will be put on this website in the coming months. If you would like to know more about statistics on financial inclusion then please contact social-justice-analysis@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

Any comments on income, poverty, social justice statistics are welcome at the social-justice-analysis@Scotland.gsi.gov.uk

Planning

Openness about planning and prioritising is a key requirement of National Statistics and of our commitment to users and providers. The social and welfare topic area is covered by a number of different Analytical Services Divisions, each Division undertakes its own business planning.

Communities Analytical Services covers statistics on social inclusion (poverty, income and financial inclusion) and equalities, the 2008/9 statistics plan for these will be published on this website in Autumn 2008. Communities Analytical Services will consult with users to agree these plans and priorities.'

The 2008 update to the 'Long Term Strategy for Measuring Deprivation' has been published and can be viewed at: Long Term Strategy for Measuring Deprivation - 2008 update ( http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/scotstat/snsgroup/MDAG/MDAG25Feb08PaperIII)
