High Level Summary of Statistics Trend Last update: Monday, December 12, 2011
During 2010/11 there were 26,844 exclusions from local authority schools in Scotland, a decrease of 11 per cent from 2009/10. In 60 cases, pupils were removed from the register of the school, though local authorities may also reach agreements with parents to move a pupil to another school without the use of a formal 'removal from register'
Rates were highest in S3. Pupils who are excluded are more likely to live in areas of higher deprivation, have additional support needs or be looked after by the local authority.
