School Attendance
During 2007/08 the total rate of absence for primary schools was 4.9% with 0.02% due to temporary exclusions. The percentage attendance in primary schools by local authority ranged from 93.1% (Glasgow City) to 96.5% (East Renfrewshire).
The total rate of absence for secondary schools was 8.9%, with 0.19% due to temporary exclusions. The percentage attendance in secondary schools by local authority ranged from 88.4% (Glasgow City) to 94.7% (East Renfrewshire).
In general, schools with higher levels of deprivation had higher levels of absence, although there were many schools which did not follow this trend. Five per cent of pupils had a perfect attendance record.
