Pupil Numbers
In 2009 there were 676,740 pupils in publicly funded schools. The number has fallen from 681,573 in 2008. The latest projections suggest that pupil numbers in publicly funded schools are projected to decrease steadily to 662 thousand in 2015, then rise until peaking at 684 thousand in 2022.
