PIRLS is one of three major international studies in which Scotland participates. PIRLS assesses the performance of P5 pupils in reading. The latest publication, PIRLS 2006, showed that:-
- Scotland's performance remained fairly stable compared to 2001
- The distribution of pupils over the different levels had also remain fairly constant since 2001.
