Annual Population Survey (APS)

Public Sector Employment

This is a quarterly publication providing data on the level of public sector employment in Scotland. The latest statistics are published each quarter in a National Statistics publication.

There is also a Public Sector Employment websection to accompany the publication. This contains more detailed information on the following areas:

• Local government employment for Scotland and by Local Authority

This section contains more detailed information on local government staffing by service group (Education, Social Work, Police, Fire and Other staff). This includes data from the Joint Staffing Watch Survey.

• Data sources and definitions

Contains technical information and background notes relevant to the Quarterly Public Sector Employment series.

• Links

This provides links to the UK Public Sector Employment Statistical Bulletin (which contains estimates of public sector employment across each government office region) and other related technical papers.

• Excel tables

Detailed tables showing a full time series of data - all quarters back to Q1 1999 - are also available to download.

Estimates of the costs to respondents of completing the surveys for the Public Sector Employment series are published in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.
