Labour Market Brief - February 2013 - *new version*

Note that ONS have made revisions to all labour market statistics derived from the Labour Force Survey, including estimates of employment, unemployment and economic inactivity, resulting from the correction of an error in the previously published estimates. These revisions have affected the estimates for September to November 2012 and October to December 2012 only. For both of these time periods, estimates at UK level for the number of people in employment have been revised up by around 20,000 and estimates of the number of economically inactive people have been revised down by around 20,000. There have been very small upward revisions to estimates of the number of unemployed people.

Further information is available here. The data in the briefing packs based on these periods have not been updated.

Youth Unemployment Publications and Briefing Papers Last Updated

Statistics presented

These briefings are updated on a monthly basis and contain:

  • The latest monthly headline experimental quarterly Labour Force Survey statistics for young people in Scotland published by ONS. regional ONS release
  • Information is also presented from the latest Annual Population Survey data set for the 16-24 age group in Scotland.
  • Information on young people on the claimant count..

Youth (16-24) estimates for employment, unemployment or inactivity from the LFS are classified as experimental by ONS due to some concerns about the sampling error due to the smaller samples. However, the LFS data are more timely and updated on a monthly basis.

Quarterly Labour Force Survey data tables X01, X02 and X03 are updated each month and can be found at the following link on the ONS web site.  The time series starts in 2006:
