Conversions and Demolitions

Details of conversions and demolitions are collected from local authorities via the Stock4 return. The return has three parts:

Part A: Tenure of houses demolished, closed, or taken out of housing use

Part B: Number of dwellings acquired by the local authority from the private sector

Part C: Conversions (no tenure breakdown)

The return was issued to local authorities for completion each quarter, until the first quarter of 2007, when it became an annual data collection, and now forms part of the Housing Statistics Annual Return.

    Financial year time series of net new dwellings created by conversion, by local authority area, from 1986-87 to 2011-12.
  • Demolitions
    Financial year time series of demolitions, by tenure and local authority area, from 1990-91 to 2011-12.
