Mortality Rates

Mortality rates from Scotland's big 3 killers, cancer, coronary heart disease and stroke, are declining and stem from the impact of lifestyle improvements and improved health care. The overall premature mortality rate in under 75s has dropped by 30%, from 507 per 100,000 in 1995 to 357 per 100,000 in 2010. This reflects a cumulative decline in cancer (24%), CHD (61%) and stroke (59%) mortality rates between 1995-2010.
