GP Access Survey Results - Updated 30th June 2009

Summary

This publication reports results from the GP Access Survey. This postal survey asked 543,246 GP Patients in Scotland about two aspects of access to their GP practice:

· whether, in the last year, they had been able to obtain a consultation with an appropriate health professional within 2 working days; and

· whether, in the last year, they had been able to book an appointment with a GP more than 2 days ahead.

Publication

On the 30th of June 2009 the report GP Access Survey: Results and Methodology was published.

This report follows the web publication, on the 19th of May, of key results for Scotland, NHS Board and GP Practice. This report includes analysis by patient and practice characteristics and methodological information.

Scotland and NHS Board information

Results for Scotland and for each NHS Board can be accessed here: GP Access Survey 2008/09 - NHS Board and Scotland Level Results.

This table shows percentages of survey respondents reporting a positive experience of gaining each of the two types of access (described above). Information on response rates is also provided.

GP Practice information

Results for individual GP practices can be accessed here: GP access Survey 2008/09 - Practice Level Results.

This table shows more detailed information on the responses received for each practice, including response rates, number and percentage of positive responses on ability to gain each type of access, and additionally the numbers of patients who did not attempt to access GP services in each way.

These tables show analysis of responses to questions asking about 48 hour and advance access and also analysis of response rate by the following patient characteristics: gender, age, reported ethnic group, rural classification of residence and deprivation.
