Public health statistics cover the major causes of morbidity and mortality including cardiovascular disease and cancer, in addition to associated health related factors and health behaviours such as smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, diet and physical activity. Although the sources of information described below for Scotland and sub-Scotland level statistics on health and health related activities are not exhaustive, they should contain most of the data required for monitoring at various levels of geography.
