Scottish Government Scottish Noise Mapping

Description

The Scottish Government has produced noise maps in response to the European Parliament and Council Directive for Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise 2002/49/EC, more commonly referred to as the Environmental Noise Directive (END). This directive deals with noise from road, rail, and air traffic, and from industry. It focuses on the impact of such noise on individuals. The maps show an average noise level for an average day in the year calculated on the basis of a 10m grid a height of 4m above ground level as required by Directive 2002/49/EC. Statistics are provided for the estimated number of people exposed to the different noise levels from each source within the agglomerations of Edinburgh and Glasgow and in relation to all main roads, railways and airports.
