Manufactured Exports
Scottish manufactured export sales decreased by 3.4 per cent in real terms in 2009 Q1 (seasonally adjusted). The level of Scottish manufactured export sales decreased by 6.5 per cent in real terms over the year to 2009 Q1.
Over the quarter the greatest declines were observed in engineering & allied industries (-5.1%), metals & metal products (-6.5%), chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-6.5%), textiles, fur & leather (-12.7%), wood, paper, publishing & printing (-7.0%), and other manufacturing (-10.1%). In the same period, growth in exports were observed in the food, drink & tobacco industries (+5.2%).
Over the year to March 2009 export sales fell in engineering & allied industries (-7.5%), food, drink & tobacco (-6.2%), metals & metal products (-12.3%), textiles, fur & leather (-12.5%), chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-3.3%), and wood, paper, publishing & printing (-4.1%). However, export sales in the other manufacturing industries grew by 3.2 per cent in real terms over the year.
