Scottish Retail Sales Index – main findings

Retail sales in Scotland decreased by 0.5 per cent in volume terms during the fourth quarter of 2012.

On an annual basis, comparing the latest quarter to the same quarter of the previous year (2012 Q4 on 2011 Q4), retail sales volumes grew by 0.7 per cent.

The value of Scottish retail sales, without adjusting for inflation, during the fourth quarter of 2012 was unchanged from the previous quarter (0.0 per cent growth), while it grew by 1.1 per cent annually (2012 Q4 on 2011 Q4).

Retail Sales in Great Britain

Retail sales in Great Britain decreased by 0.4 per cent in volume terms during the fourth quarter of 2012, and grew by 1.4 per cent annually (2012 Q4 on 2011 Q4).

The value of GB retail sales, without adjusting for inflation, increased by 0.1 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2012, and grew by 2.1 per cent annually (2012 Q4 on 2011 Q4).
