Liquor Licensing
Due to the introduction of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, which came fully into force in September 2009, the statistics collected on liquor licensing in 2010-11 and 2011-12 are not comparable with those collected in previous years.
There were 16,391 premises licenses in force in Scotland on 31st March 2012. The largest numbers were in City of Edinburgh, Glasgow City and Highland, which together accounted for almost 30 per cent of the total. During 2011-12, 445 applications for premises were received, slightly over half of which related to on sales. In addition, 354 applications for premises licenses were granted and 21 were refused during the year, under section 23 of the 2005 Act.
The number of personal licenses in force on 31st March 2012 was 46,701. The largest numbers were in Glasgow City, City of Edinburgh and Fife. The number of applications for personal licenses under section 72 of the Act which were granted was 5,282, while only 17 were refused.
